FIRST LEARN WALK - THEN LEARN FLY - Mr. Miyagi
(June 16, 2011)
Recently liberal commentator, Bob Beckel, made this comment about a Conservative Candidate for President. "He flunked Drafting, for Christ sake. Who flunks drafting?" Few people do actually. Many who take Drafting go on to become Engineers and Scientists.
To enroll in a curriculum to become an Engineer, Architect, NASA Scientist, you first must take and pass drafting classes. To become a tool-and-die maker or a building contractor; or to be able to read building, electrical, mechanical, HVAC or plumbing blueprints you need to take Drafting.
Without Draftsmen (like my father and myself) there would be no manufacturing - we would still be making things at home, as in oh, Medieval Times? In order to manufacture a simple six-sided cardboard box, you first must draw it to scale on a sheet of one dimensional paper. Can you do that, commentator? No. You don't know how, because you never took drafting classes. How do I know this?
Because no one who ever took Drafting would ask "who flunks drafting?" Before I was eighteen, I drew the plans/blueprints for two houses - complete with a detailed cost itemization for every last product, drainage detail, plot plan, landscaping, permitting and labor cost that went into that house. Before I learned that skill in Architectural Drawing class, I learned the basics of Engineering in 4 semesters of Mechanical Drafting classes.
Of course, one can make Drafting a lot simpler with the use of modern CADD (Computer Assisted Drafting and Design) software. Where it used to take me 2 -3 weeks to complete house plans, I can now do it in 2 - 3 days.
But you cannot. You can read all the manuals you want, supplied by the folks who create those CADD programs, but absent formal training (Drafting classes), you might as well toss that 3-D Turbo-CADD program you just bought to impress your friends with your Formula 1 design acumen right into the trashcan - it looks easy. It isn't. You can't do it. You never learned how while acquiring your Degree in Italian Rennaisance studies.
Who flunks 3-D Turbo CADD? You do, snob.
So why bring up this elitist's sneering comment? As in his case, we too often are governed by those elitists who talk a good game, but lack the practical experience and well-rounded education to accomplish those tasks for which they claimed they could during their election campaign. When Paul Ryan devised his plan to 'rescue' Medicare and Social Security (essentially by cutting back on benefits for which Seniors involuntarily paid premiums throught their working careers and by extending working age several more years), he didn't even bother to ask the affected Seniors for any input. After all - he knows everything, right?
Maybe. Ryan worked his way through college by driving an Oscar Meyer Weiner Truck and graduated from Miami of Ohio University with a degree in Political Science and Economics. Forbes ranked Miami 243rd in the rankings of U.S. Colleges. While MO has no Noble Prize winners, it has one Pulitzer (poetry), and President Benjamin Harrison, who gave us the McKinley Tariff and the Sherman Antitrust Act, was a graduate. Ryan then briefly worked for his 'family business'.
Never having created a single job, or well (bottom line) never having accomplished anything . . . at age 22, he went into politics. Hooking up with such Conservative Pols as Bill Bennett and Jack Kemp. he first was elected to Congress five short years later - and there he remains.
Barack Obama grew up in Hawaii and attended the elite Punahou School, before obtaining degrees from Harvard and Columbia. He then taught Law and became a 'community organizer'. Like Ryan, he became President, never having created a single job, or well (bottom line) never having accomplished anything.
In this morning's New York Times, page one, the lead article SAYS "PAKISTAN'S CHIEF OF ARMY FIGHTS TO KEEP JOB." The gist of that piece is that Pro-American leader General Parvez Kayani is in danger of losing his job because othe military leaders and most of the Pakistani People hate Americans - especially over our killing of their hero Osama Bin Laden. Now we are faced with the possibility of confronting a nuclear-armed Pakistan militarily over our pursuit of Al Queda and Taliban terrorists into Western Pakistan.
Whenever there is a natural disaster or crippling disease (polio, AIDS, smallpox, liberalism) Americans are there to help. No strings attached. So why do Muslims the world over, including here in the U.S., hate us so? Mr. Ryan? Mr. Obama? It's simple. In order to consolidate its power after the discovery of oil, the Saudi Arabian ruling family (House of Saud) made a pact with the small extremist Islam cult Wahhabists (http://www.sawyer2012.com/man-made-disasters.html), who hate all other forms of religion but their own. In turn, over the last forty years, to appease Wahhabism, now Saudi Arabia's ONLY tolerated religion, Saudi princes have provided funding for thousands of Wahhabist schools all over the world, including the United States.
Wahhabist schools do not teach the three r's. They teach only the Quran interpretating the meanings as opposing all other religions and inculcating their uneducated 'students' in the fine points of hating Americans. 40 years ago, even long after Israel came into existence, Muslims did not hate Americans - now they do. You can thank "our friends" the Saudis. 16 of the 20 9/11 hijackers were Saudis. Osama was a Saudi.
So why don't our leaders do something about this?
I'm sure that Congressman Ryan and President Obama mean well, and that they are trying hard. But trying isn't good enough. We need leadership that can get it done. Maybe someone who didn't flunk drafting.
FEB 12, 2013: On Fox News, the same Bob Beckel whined today about noted Pediatric Surgeon, Ben Carson's remarks before a White House prayer breakfast, wherein Black Conservative Dr. Carson commented on the need for ALL Americans to pay their 'fair share." "Someone who makes a $ billion should pay $100 Million; someone who makes $10,000 should pay $1,000." While the President sternly looked on, mouth slightly agape, the Dr. added that someone who makes more than someone else shouldn't be demonized for not paying more - his 'fair share.'
Beckel whined that the prayer breakfast wasn't the proper venue to make such remarks. Of course Beckel knows that neither the establishment media nor President Obama are ever going to solicit Dr. Carson's opinions elsewhere, but that's the idea isn't it? African-Americans who don't follow the Socialist line are 'right-wingers,' not worthy of being heard.
Especially self-made African-Americans, like Dr, Carson, who was raised by his Grandmother and fought his way out of an impoverished Detroit childhood to become one of the foremost Surgeons on the planet. Of course as he is often want to remind us, President Obama was raised by his Grandmother also, in a pricey Honolulu Condominium, and sent to Panahou, the most exclusive private school in America (annual cost $45,000), and onto Harvard and Columbia. And we have heard all about it in countless media interviews and ghost written 'biographies.'
Self-made African-Americans are seldom heard from. When was the last time you saw "Pursuit of Happyness" (Will Smith) or "Gifted Hands - the Ben Carson Story" (Cuba Goodding, Jr.) on TV?
